LEARNING AGREEMENT

1. THE CHOSEN SITE & RESEARCH TOPIC/ISSUES YOU WISH TO STUDY

Air travel has become a fast-growing mode of transportation locally and globally, airport plays an important role as travelers can have a memorable experience in a comfortable and user-friendly airport. As travel becomes such an important part of daily modern life, consideration of architecture and conscious designs of the airports terminals play important roles as it can influence the experience of the end-users.

The report aims to identify how the architecture and interior designs of the airports chosen can improve the experience of the end users and to develop a better understanding of space planning, building programme and choices of material used in the airports terminals.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) & Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2)- are two main international airports that located in Sepang district, Selangor. Both of this airports are located approximately 45 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur city and operated by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) Sepang Sdn Bhd. KLIA replaced Subang International Airport as local international airports as it can’t handle any future demand due to lack of spaces. Located 2 kilometers away from KLIA, KLIA2 served as world largest low-cost carrier terminal with integrated shopping complex connected to the main terminal of the airport.

Subang Airport- was once served as Kuala Lumpur’s main airport before Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang was opened in 1988. It consisted of three terminals and currently the hub for Firefly and Malindo airlines. Subang Aiport was also renamed as Subang Skypark after the renovation of Terminal 3 in 2008.
